The location of the new US embassy in Nine Elms, London has unlocked the potential for the development of this site. Priorities for the Ballymore Group were centred on the creation of early place making in a socially sustainable, phased residential development. Obtaining the best possible value out of planning was essential to the feasibility of the development.
Working within a wider masterplan, and alongside buildings by AHMM and Feilden Clegg Bradley, the massing model provides high density accommodation arranged around raised courtyards. During the design process, emphasis has been placed on establishing key visual and physical connections to the adjacent linear park and streets. Unit sizes are approximately 20% larger than the Mayor’s current standards.
A variety of balcony types are proposed depending on unit size and orientation. A series of landscaped terraces connect the raised courtyard to the linear park.
The project is currently in design development with a view to construction commencing in the spring of 2013.
